I wanted to start Our Blog week with a thought on success. If you type a version of “finding success” in your favorite search engine, you will find all kinds of “How-to” ideas. They range from “what successful people eat for breakfast” to “do what you love and success will follow“.
I suppose you could even argue to never stop acting like a kid.
Online-Gamers are even starting to earn a good living, get commercial sponsors and even be classified as a Professional Video Game Streamer. Here is an article from The New Yorker titled “How To Get Rich Playing Video Games Online“.
They say to follow whatever gives you passion and makes you happy.
Which leads me to the topic of success and refrigerators. Years ago we began distributing Joel Bieber Firm magnets. Last week, a prospective client called us and we went to their house to sign them up for representation. Then they said that they easily got our phone number “because when they moved into their apartment eight-years-ago, there was a Joel Bieber Firm magnet already on the refrigerator.”
So I believe in the power of magnets! And also putting important things on the refrigerator.
In that context, Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos has a motivational saying of Ralph Waldo Emerson on his refrigerator. A good goal for success, to think about each day!
“To laugh often and much; to win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children; to earn the appreciation of honest critics and endure the betrayal of false friends; to appreciate beauty; to find the best in others; to leave the world a bit better, whether by a healthy child, a garden patch, or a redeemed social condition; to know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived. This is to have succeeded“.
And finally, I close with and explanation with Our pic o’ day. It is from a company that decided to turn a craze into a living. With the success of the Avengers, Obvious Plant decided to capitalize and create bootleg figures. (Although you have to wonder if Marvel will soon be sending a cease and desist letter ) Here is an example of one of their “action heroes”. How can they be angry at The Incredible Fella?
