Fleet Phospho-Soda Linked to Kidney Failure

C.B. Fleet, manufacturer of Phospho-Soda has a lawsuit pending in the Virginia court system. Studies have proven their popular laxative Phospho-Soda has been linked to severe kidney problems and kidney failure. This drug is commonly given to patients before a colonoscopy. It is used to clean the bowels before the procedure is performed. The drug used in conjunction with blood pressure medication has proven very harmful to the people who have taken the combination. In 2005 the Journal of the American Society of Nephrology published a study where 21 patients experienced acute kidney failure after taking the bowl-cleansing drug Phospho-Soda. Of the 21 patients, 14 of them were also taking medication for hypertension.

An article published by The Virginia Pilot states that C.B. Fleet proved negligent when failing to inform doctors of the risks involved with Phospho-Soda. The article also states that, “people had kidney failure a couple of weeks after having a colonoscopy, but none of the doctors put two and two together.”
