This Is A Golf Ball!

Does this fall under the heading of blogging humor?

IMG_2485

I always like the “behind-the-scenes” of movies and TV. The true fundamentals of how they do it. Do you remember the lion at the beginning of some movies?

IMG_2478

This is Leon the Lion. Some MGM executive came up with the roaring idea to have Leon become their signature beginning of each movie. This picture taken in 1928 shows the behind-the-scenes.

It took Leon one take to step on on those crates, look in the camera, and roar. I wonder how they found the production staff willing to film Leon. That roaring lion that is still used in movies was a well executed plan.

Recently I decided to get back into golf. I took a lesson last week and also played a round. I told the pro that I would understand if he started the lesson out with, “this is a golf ball“. Starting out with the fundamentals. The first lesson was using only one club and was about the details like stance, elbow positioning and even how I finished the shot.

Admittedly, I was a bit sore the next day. Using body parts I had not used in a while!

So in discussing the fundamentals of fitness, we start out by remembering the kid who calls from his bedroom, “Hey Grandma, how about another grape soda?”.  I wonder what the script said for that actor. Do you think “need young actor who looks out of shape“?

That is why I perked up when a saw a study/article in the American Heart Association Journal (Here) titled Impact of Healthy Lifestyle Factors on Life Expectancies in the US Population.

Condensed down, the authors simplified how to prolong your life expectancy by more than a decade? Their basic suggestions to a behind-the-scenes look to extending your life? Following these five healthy habits: never smoke, maintain a healthy body-mass index, keep up moderate to vigorous exercise, don’t drink too much alcohol, and eat a healthy diet.

According to the study, if you follow these five lifestyle recommendations at age 50, compared with not adhering to any of them, women pick up an additional 14 years of life expectancy, while men live an additional 12.2 years. How about that!

The simple fundamentals of extending life…follow a healthy lifestyle. And maybe not be a camera man for a roaring lion?

For pic o’ day… we all need encouragement!

The Story of “Chipper Dean”

It’s Friday! That means positivity and that I can blog on anything. And yes…I am positive that positivity is a word!

IMG_2431

Unbridled positivity!

I always wanted a nickname. But, I learned early on that you cannot give yourself a nickname.

My full name is Joel Dean Bieber. As a little kid, I wanted to be called Chipper Dean Bieber. I cannot say why. Maybe from the RCA dogs Nipper and Chipper?

IMG_2437

IMG_2438

My parents wanted to teach me how to introduce myself and shake hands. So, they would tell me to introduce myself to an adult. I would stick out my hand and say, “Hi, I’m Chipper Dean” and my parents would immediately correct me and tell the confused person, “That’s not his name!“. How can you be angry at Chipper?

As a sixth-grader, I was the manager for the junior high and high school basketball team. They all had this “thing” where they would transpose their first and last name letters. For instance, Rob Dibbert would be called Dob Ribbert. So I called myself Boel Jieber. (Bowl Jeeber) No one called me Boel Jieber…thankfully!

When I went to college, I refused to wear glasses, and my contacts hurt my eyes. So, I was constantly asked, “Why are you squinting?”. On the back of my fraternity shirt I put “Squint” as my name. Again no one called me Squint… you probably are getting the continual theme here.

I guess I could now try to call myself Happy Joel. However… again… no one would!

Have you ever heard someone describe themselves as “I’m a people person” or “I’m a real salesman“. I don’t think you can say that about yourself either.

Proverbs 22:1 says, “A good name is rather to be chosen than great riches, and loving favor rather than silver or gold“. Today we would say that a good reputation and respect are worth more than silver and gold.

I guess trying to give myself a nickname is much like trying to tell someone about your character or reputation. It’s what others think about you…not how you describe yourself.

Every day, I am working on my name in my personal and professional life.

And I have to sometimes remind myself of that when driving! Right?

I hope you have a great weekend! These are the good days!

Some Friday Rambling Wisdom

I feel that Friday blogging gives license for wandering! Right? How about some different types of wisdom. Some real… some not so much. I blog…you decide!

First, here is some of my wisdom. It’s more of an eating strategy.

When you are at a buffet, it’s fine to start with a salad plate first. But, I think that you should also put cake on your salad plate. That way, it still counts as part of the salad. Especially if it’s carrot cake!

Next is the love of grandmothers

IMG_2322

Anne Frank’s wisdom is something to truly ponder.

IMG_2308

And what do you think about faith healers and psychics?

IMG_2409

And finally, it’s not much in the way of wisdom…but it’s a good thing to appreciate beauty!

IMG_2330

It’s NFL Football Draft weekend! And, I am hoping for some Washington Wizards winnings! Have a great weekend!!!!!

Political Winds Plus Some Ramblings

This is a thinking blog starter for Friday… right? It is only understood by coffee drinkers!

IMG_2355

Let’s start with something that is hard to understand. And then something that is understandable.

Hard to understand? It’s a story from Wavy.com. This whole story is crazy to me. Especially the Cheetos.

The title of the article says it all.  Homeowner finds naked intruder in her tub, eating Cheetos. There is a lot wrong with that. Hard to understand! I guess you can look for the positive and be thankful that she did not steal their goldfish! Boom!

IMG_2379

And now to the understandable.

Earlier this week I had breakfast with a member of the Virginia House of Delegates. I had never personally met him, so I did some background research on bills that he had introduced in the last session, bills he had supported, and donors who had made contributions to election/reelection.

I found that Geico had been one of his contributors. They had given more significantly to some Republicans, but he was one of the few Democrats that had received a political contribution from the insurance company, even though it was only $250.

I asked him why he thought that Geico had contributed to his campaign. He advised that he sat on a subcommittee of three legislators that handled insurance legislation. All three of them had received political contributions from Geico.

And that’s how it works! Easy to understand. Does it make you want to say “Good Day”?

And finally, have a great weekend!

Small Print, Listening, Teamwork, Mine

Dennis (who has been with the firm over 80 years…ok, maybe that is a little bit of exaggeration) does not like when I just post pictures for the blog. He wants long historical blogs. But to everyone else who might appreciate just some pictures on a Thursday… I dedicate this to you. Uncle D… don’t be angry! Have some cake.

Plus, this is all office-themed. That has to be worth something, right?

Have you ever wondered where they come up with the small print on all those inserts? The answer:

IMG_2342

We are currently interviewing paralegals and attorneys, and this reminded me of the interviewing process. I always wanted to do this:

IMG_2341

And isn’t teamwork important in the workplace?

IMG_2344

And finally, I understand this feeling when we move offices. It just made me laugh.

IMG_2346

Tomorrow is Friday! I cannot explain why this picture makes me laugh… but it just does. To all our happiness including Uncle D!

Analysis By Analysis

I have found myself making excuses for Wednesday blogs. I tell myself, “The blogs for Monday and Tuesday were too long. They need a break!”. So now that I have that excuse, I am posting a shorty blog today… and I feel good about myself! I write Our Blog for Us!

First, this picture is one that is easy to just skim by, until you really look at it. Analysis: This has to be the most difficult selfie in the world. Right?

IMG_2294

And this is a picture to picture with an ending that tells a story. The analysis leads me to believe that… this must be a first ride. I know this feeling!

IMG_2296

And finally, our pic o’ day is also a good reminder to me!

IMG_2286

Just Some Advertising Thoughts

I cannot help it.

IMG_2253

Hahahahahahahahahahahaha

This blog is about some of my rambling thoughts about advertising. I think this all started when I repeatedly kept seeing the same advertisement for pillows. It was driving me crazy.

It’s the ad where this couple…in their bathroom… notices the “My Pillow Guy”. I mean, come on. Why would it be acceptable to start an ad from the restroom. With a guy with “out of this world” hair coloring, staring at you from the mirror in your bathroom. Am I the only one who thinks this is a tremendously crazy idea. Seriously? I cannot stop typing about this! I do not want the “My Pillow Guy” in my bathroom. Get out!

Advertising is a funny thing. It gets into our mind. For instance, what comes to mind when I say it’s “finger lickin’ good”? You know!

In fact, here is a list of the most memorable slogans from the survey firm Survata . Can you finish them? I started us with the first most recognizable. I was going to put the answers at the bottom, but my copy and pasting skills…made it easier just to attach:

1. “Finger lickin’ good”, KFC 87.9%
2. “Every kiss begins with ___ “, Kay Jewelers 87.4%
3. “15 minutes could save you 15% or more”, Geico  82.3%
4. “Just do it”, Nike 82.3%
5. “Snap, Crackle, Pop”, Rice Krispies 79.5%
6. “You’re in good hands”, Allstate 78.2%
7. “Taste the rainbow”, Skittles 75.1%
8. “Melts in your mouth, not in your hands”, M&Ms 73.2%
9. “Maybe she’s born with it. Maybe it’s ____ “, Maybelline 69.3%
10. “I’m lovin’ it”, McDonalds 68.9%
11. “____ is on your side”, Nationwide 68.8%
12. “They’re G-r-r-reat!”, Frosted Flakes 68.3%
13. “We have the meats”, Arby’s 67.8%
14. “The king of beers”, Budweiser 66.1%
15. “M’m! M’m! Good!”, Campbell’s 62.1%
16. “It gives you wings”, Red Bull 59.3%
17. “The happiest place on Earth”, Disney 58.7%
18. “The breakfast of champions”, Wheaties 57.1%
19. “Can you hear me now?”, Verizon 54.9%
20. “Taste so good, cats ask for it by name”, Meow Mix 53.9%
21. “Eat fresh”, Subway 52.4%
22. “When it absolutely, positively has to be there overnight” FedEx 52.4%
23. “At the corner of happy and healthy”, Walgreens 51.5%
24. “Betcha can’t eat just one”, Lays 50.7%
25. “The snack that smiles back”, Goldfish 49.0%

These are slogans that are currently in use. There are a few on there that I do not ever remember hearing. The Goldfish slogan? Really? Is it wrong that I cannot stop myself when I start eating Goldfish. Are 5,000 goldfish too many in one seating?

I might have thrown in “When it rains it pours” but I suspect that has come and gone. I guess the slogan “Don’t marry King Henry VIII” is more advice than slogan?

I like the “advertising” Facebook post of my friend, Ken Price. He posted, “I want to be buried in a transparent casket. Good idea? Remains to be seen“. Hahahahahaha (I think that is hilarious)

We are always in search of new ideas for our advertisements. Ultimately, I always find us back to “We will come to you”. I guess that qualifies as our slogan! At least one of them.

And finally, this post makes me laugh. A roommate playing a prank. I guess this is “bad marketing”.

Bunny Pictures and Team Concepts

I wanted to include the Easter theme in Our Blog… so let’s get started:

IMG_2258I guess this would be a typical day in the life of computer bunny repairs?

IMG_2259And now a bit of real blogging, even though I am not the originator. I so enjoyed learning about this team concept. There is something truly moving about this:

IMG_2257

and finally,

IMG_2260

I hope you have a wonderful and meaningful weekend! I so enjoy a sunrise service.

Completely Distracted Blogging!

It’s Thursday and it’s one of those weeks! I feel like I should be able to solve the question of who turned donut holes into profit? Isn’t that turning a negative into a positive?

IMG_2230

How did that get there?

Something happened on my way to blogging.

Ok, I admit it. I started to blog and then I got sidetracked by trying to find pic o’ day… and this happened!

IMG_2256

And I understand this math!

IMG_2255

and this one seems like intellectual humor. I’m just saying!

IMG_2252

And that’s Our Thursday Blog!

Who Knows Why?

Because it’s Friday, and why wouldn’t a cat owner dress their cat in a costume?

IMG_2206

and

IMG_2233

Yes… I feel like I am angry blogging. Life is just crazy! Right? So let’s get positive!

Have a great weekend. Sometimes it’s good to just have no reason…much like Our Blog today.
